Harvard University has a long road ahead before it claims victory, despite a federal judge ruling in its favor on Wednesday evening, restoring nearly $3 billion in federal funding to the university.
Judge Allison Burroughs’ decision will likely now be appealed by the Trump administration, moving its way up to the First Circuit of Appeals and then potentially to the Supreme Court.
“The Trump administration clearly expected Judge Burroughs to hand them a loss; they made that clear from the moment the hearing ended. And I think we all know they will appeal swiftly, and the White House said as much last night when they decried this ‘egregious’ outcome. So none of that is a surprise,” said Jodie Ferise, partner at higher education law practice at Church Church Hittle and Antrim law firm.
