VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The debate over Virginia Beach’s future voting system continued on Thursday night as the NAACP Virginia Beach Branch held a town hall in support of the 10-1 referendum.
The event was held in partnership with the Vote Yes on 10-1 Coalition, the Virginia Beach Education Association, and Alpha Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Organizers said the town hall would explain the benefits of the 10-1 system, give residents a chance to hear directly from community leaders, and allow voters to ask questions ahead of November’s referendum.
"Accountability is important, I don’t think that anyone should be able or will be able to say what we need in our area if you don’t live in our area," said the Benita Richardson, the secretary of the Virginia Beach NAACP
