WASHINGTON, D. C. - U.S. Rep. Shontel Brown is leading congressional opposition to the Trump administration’s proposed rescission of civil rights protections enacted by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965.

The Department of Labor wants to rescind the Equal Employment Opportunity Executive Order 11246 , which prohibits employment discrimination by federal contractors on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and national origin.

The executive order has required federal contractors not only to avoid discrimination but to be proactive in ensuring equal employment opportunities, including considerations for promotions for women, Black and brown individuals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
