A multiple-alarm fire that caused an estimated $1 million in damage to a Greensville house was caused by lightning, says the Hamilton Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to the house at 484 Ofield Rd., near Highway 5, shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday for a house that had been struck by lightning and was on fire, Chief Dave Cunliffe said.
Crews arrived to a large, single-storey home with heavy smoke and flames through the roof. Given the extent of the fire, the call was upgraded to multiple-alarm, drawing resources from across Hamilton.
All residents safely fled the home before emergency services arrived. No injuries were reported.
