Is ‘The Paper’ accurate? Funny? A take from Toledo’s real

Every Saturday through Wednesday, I spend my days working on the copy desk of The Blade, Toledo’s newspaper.

I usually proofread stories, but sometimes I pull and edit stories from our wire services while paginators design the pages.

Similarly, Mare Pritti spends her workdays at the Toledo Truth Teller — the fictional Toledo newspaper depicted in The Paper, a spinoff of hit sitcom The Office — doing all of the above.

The differences, however, could not be more stark.

The Paper, which premiered Thursday on Peacock, centers around the Truth Teller’s new editor-in-chief, Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson), and his effort to turn the small, failing newspaper into a success. At his side are Mare (Chelsea Frei) and Office alum Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nuñez), the only character from the original sh
