An 82-year-old man who died in hospital after being found injured in an Old Strathcona backyard Saturday morning had reportedly been walking in the alley hours before, police said Thursday, calling for witnesses.

Around 8:25 a.m. officers and emergency crews responded to the medical distress call at the yard near 104 Street and 85 Avenue on Saturday, treated the senior before he was transported to hospital where he died.

Homicide investigators quickly took over the case. The cause and manner of death are pending further testing and examination following the Tuesday autopsy, police said.
