This past spring, the Nogales High School fire alarm system needed to be replaced. It’s a labor-intensive process, involving rewiring throughout the building, and an expensive one. The school district turned to the School Facilities Division (SFD), a statewide agency, for help funding the installation, and on April 10, the SFD awarded them $595,653.36 in Building Renewal Grant (BRG) money.
But the money didn’t show up: the SFD didn’t have it. They had already run out of their allocated funds, so Nogales had to wait until the start of the next fiscal year, in July, to receive the awarded funds and start the replacement. ×
