SAN ANTONIO — The 14-year-old who shot and killed a man in a Walmart parking lot last year was sentenced Thursday morning.

He was facing capital murder for the death of 65-year-old Muhammad Pazir , but a plea deal allowed him to be sentenced for only murder.

Pazir was killed after an attempted carjacking on April 6, 2024.

The teen cried after hearing the judge read a statement from Pazir’s family. After pleading guilty to murder, he will now spend 40 years in prison.

“This act of violence that took our family’s life since April 6, 2024," The plaintiff's attorney said in court as she read the family's impact statement.
