CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — West Virginia has submitted its final proposal for federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) funding, according to Gov. Patrick Morrisey.
The Biden-era broadband internet expansion initiative was expected to bring more than $1 billion to West Virginia when funding amounts were announced more than two years ago. The administration then the revamped program with amended guidelines, which included an extension of the deadline for states to submit plans for deploying the funds until Thursday.
Although officials like Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., have said there are more 97,000 unversed locations and nearly 15,000 undeserved locations for broadband access in West Virginia , the state's final application is for just 74,000 new locations.
