Temporary warning signs and a lower speed limit were implemented Tuesday on state Highway 14’s West Camas Slough Bridge while the state waits for funding to become available for a full resurfacing project.

“Rough Road” warning signs have been placed in both directions approaching the bridge to warn drivers of the failing pavement. Speeds have also been reduced from 60 mph to 50 mph, with an advisory of 40 mph.

The signs will remain in place until the Washington State Department of Transportation has enough funding for a full resurfacing project. Currently, the department of transportation has 40 percent of the funding needed for its maintenance budget that is spread across all state-owned roads and bridges. There is currently no funding dedicated to the project on the West Camas Slough B
