NEXTON, S.C. (WCBD) — The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) broke ground Thursday on a new multi-million-dollar medical complex in Nexton, aimed at expanding healthcare access for residents in Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

The $325 million project will include a state-of-the-art neighborhood hospital and a 30,000-square-foot cancer center connected to MUSC’s Hollings Cancer Center in downtown Charleston. Together, the facilities will cover 192,000 square feet across three floors.

MUSC leaders say the goal is to bring high-quality care closer to home for families across the growing Tri-County region.
