PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona GOP lawmakers say the state’s Department of Child Safety is taking immediate steps toward reform following meetings with legislators and the recent deaths of three children who had prior contact with the agency.
In a news release dated Thursday, the Arizona State Senate Republican Caucus said that DCS is moving forward to introduce clearer notification rules, including changes to when and how group homes are required to notify the agency and law enforcement if a child runs away.
The announcement comes less than 24 hours after a closed-door meeting that brought together state lawmakers, DCS staff, tribal leaders, advocates and family members of those impacted.
