ST. CLOUD, Minn. (FOX 9) - A St. Cloud man faces multiple charges after authorities say he tried to kill a former girlfriend who was breaking up with him – stabbing her 17 times in the process.

What we know:

George Washington Harris Jr., 42, is charged with second-degree attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon for an alleged attack that occurred on Aug. 31.

According to charges, the St. Cloud Police Department was dispatched to a residence on the 400 block of 19 ½ Avenue North around 9:40 a.m. on the report of a female that had been stabbed.

Responding officers arrived to find the victim unconscious on the sidewalk in front of the residence, with multiple wounds and lacerations. An officer at the scene described her abdomen as "having
