If the Supreme Court strikes down some of Trump’s biggest tariffs, importers could be entitled to "billions and billions of dollars" in refunds.

Americans who have paid more for things because of the new tariffs shouldn’t hold their breath.

Experts say any refunds would go to the companies that paid the tariffs in the first place, and consumers would not have recourse to ask for their money back.

Two courts have now ruled that the biggest and boldest of President Trump’s tariffs are illegal, setting the stage for the Supreme Court to decide if they will remain in place.

If the high court does strike them down, the federal government could have to pay back many of the taxes it’s already collected from companies that import foreign products into the United States.
