Garmin has taken the wraps off the Fēnix 8 Pro line, adding LTE-M and inReach satellite connectivity so adventurers can message, share location and trigger SOS without a phone.

That noted, wearers will need to do all that inside Garmin’s own Messenger ecosystem.

That means you can’t make a regular call or send a normal SMS using the watch.

The line boasts impressive batteries. The charge lasts up to 27 days on the AMOLED models.

The halo 51mm MicroLED version, which reaches an eye-burning 4,500 nits, is rated at up to 10 days.

Garmin is positioning the watch as a rugged, phone-free safety tool rather than yet another smartwatch clone.
