(WJW / AP) - Indiana Fever star and fan-favorite Caitlin Clark will be out for the remainder of the WNBA season.

Clark has been sidelined with a right groin injury since July 15. She hadn't been cleared for contract drills during practice earlier this week, but there was still hope that she might return before the end of the season.

But the 23-year-old shared a less-than-positive update on X Thursday evening.

"I will not be returning to play this season," Clark wrote. "I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there. Disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling."

She went on to thank everyone for the support through the uncertainty.
