A federal jury Thursday found Topgolf negligent for a 9-year-old boy’s injury when he was hit in the head by a club during a friend’s birthday party at the Hillsboro location and awarded the family nearly $16 million in damages.
The eight-member jury returned the verdict after nearly two days of deliberations following about two weeks of trial.
It found that Topgolf was 97% negligent while the parents of another boy who hosted the party in 2021 were 3% negligent.
The jury awarded a total of $15.8 million in damages, including $12.5 million for pain and suffering and $3.3 million for economic damages to the family.
