RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT)—It seems rather odd to talk about what looks to be a developing drought in Central Virginia after the 8th wettest July on record.
However, things can change quickly in the summer, especially when we go weeks without significant rainfall.
The Drought Monitor is updated every Thursday, and you can see that just about all of our 12 On Your Side viewing area is now considered abnormally dry.
We followed up that wet July with a much drier August. In fact, we had a deficit of close to 2.5″.
Days of sunshine and high evaporation rates have taken their toll. The upper layers of the soil are quite dry, making frequent watering a necessity for our lawns and gardens.
