STEUBEN COUNTY, NY (WENY) -- Steuben County is updating its 'Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan,' to help reduce the risk of natural disaster emergencies. On Thursday, September 4th, officials held their first public meeting to get community feedback.

We met with municipalities, as well as the general public, on ideas that they have for the mitigation plan and any feedback or questions they might have about what the plan is, what it entails, and why we’re doing this," said the Director of Public Safety for Steuben County, Tim Marshall.

Every five years, municipalities have to update and have plans approved by FEMA to remain eligible for grant funding through the agency's Hazard Mitigation Assistance Program.

The mitigation goals are as follows:
