SA Police has confirmed the missing remains found by a member of the public in scrubland east of Port Lincoln are those of alleged murder victim Julian Story.

SA Police said it had received information from a member of the public that they had found what appeared to be a human skull near the Eyre Peninsula town on July 31.

It said Forensic Science SA did a detailed scientific examination, which identified that the remains belonged to Mr Story.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke previously said the area where the remains were located had not been searched by police and was not an area of interest based on the information they had at the time.
