WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Derby and Hays both found themselves in deep playoff runs during the 2024 season. Though they each fell shy of a state title, it fostered a similar fire for the 6A and 5A foes.

"Nobody wants to be the first team in school history to make it to the state championship and not win," Hays senior wide receiver and cornerback Jarek Purdy said. "Losing it the way we did just kind of made our guys a lot more hungrier."
