PLANO, Texas — It’s football season, and here in Texas, that means it’s mum season too.
Plano’s homecoming celebrations have a new centerpiece this year. A large-scale HOCO mum photo opportunity has been installed on stage at McCall Plaza, giving students, families and community members a festive backdrop to capture the spirit of the season.
The display highlights one of Texas’s most recognizable traditions: the homecoming mum. For decades, high school students across the state have exchanged oversized corsages — often featuring silk flowers, flowing ribbons, bells, charms and plush mascots — as a way to celebrate school pride.
The name mum comes from the flower Chrysanthemum.
