A crowd showed up to Thursday’s Ector County Commissioners Court meeting for a public hearing on the tax rate.
About a dozen people spoke with most telling the Court they are against the proposed higher tax rate. Some spoke for the new courthouse, which is funded through the issuance of certificates of obligation. Those CO’s come with a payback of about $20 million a year.
Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett detailed prior to public testimony the tax rates of not just the county but also other local taxing entities. “We are increasing by 9 pennies,” he told the crowd and presented a number of charts showing what people are paying now and what they will likely pay next year. “It doesn’t mean I’m not saying 9 cents doesn’t hurt…but I like to arm you with information…we make every dollar stre
