In last year’s regular season matchup between El Paso Eastlake and Permian, it was a high-scoring affair.
This time, it was the defenses that dominated.
In the end, the Permian Panthers prevailed, winning 27-12 in their home opener Thursday at Ratliff Stadium.
Playing Eastlake for the third time in a year, the Falcons (1-1) were coming off a 70-50 win against El Paso Bel Air.
However, Permian’s defense took care of business and the Panthers scored two fourth quarter touchdowns after leading 13-9 at the end of the third.
“Our defense did a great job on the turnovers,” Permian head coach Jeff Ellison said. “We had three turnovers so we did a great job tonight.”
In last year’s regular season contest, Permian pulled through in a 56-49 win. This time, it was a defensive struggle.
