A North-West mayor has moved to reassure residents about landfill collections moving to fortnightly in conjunction with the FOGO rollout.
"I understand there are some questions in the community about the shift to fortnightly landfill collections," Burnie mayor Teeny Brumby said.
"No doubt about it, it's an adjustment, but with a FOGO (food organics, garden organics) service now running alongside of recycling, most households will find their landfill bin fills much more slowly than before, just as we have seen in our neighbouring municipalities."
Cr Brumby said the council would closely monitor the rollout.
" ... we encourage residents to give it a go and let us know how they are finding it," she said.
"This is a big step in creating a cleaner, greener Burnie for the future."
