LORAIN, Ohio — Lorain City Council on Tuesday advanced legislation that would prohibit the use of consumer fireworks within Lorain’s city limits, citing concerns for public health and safety.
The ordinance would eliminate previously permitted days when residents were allowed to discharge fireworks, including New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Juneteenth and the Fourth of July.
The ordinance cites Ohio Revised Code Section 3743.45, which gives municipalities authority to restrict or prohibit consumer fireworks.
