The Powerball jackpot is now at a dizzying estimated $1.7 billion after no one matched all six numbers drawn on the night of Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The jackpot was already making headlines when it was at an estimated $1.3 billion . Now, the latest figures make the jackpot for Saturday, Sept. 6 the third-largest jackpot in United States history, according to a news release from Powerball . It follows a $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won in 2022 and a $1.765 billion Powerball jackpot in 2023 — both won in California.

If a player wins the jackpot in the next drawing, they’ll choose between an annuitized prize estimated at $1.7 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $770.3 million, according to the news release. Both prizes are before taxes.
