A man indicted on a federal drug distribution charge in December was recently sentenced in court.

The defendant, 28-year-old Tomas Eduardo Ibarra, of Taylorsville, was charged with one federal count of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute when he appeared for a sentencing hearing held Aug. 21 at U.S. District Court in St. George.

Police said more than 22 pounds of suspected fentanyl was recovered from a vehicle in Kanab during Ibarra's arrest.

The federal case was filed following a traffic stop on Dec. 8, 2024, when a Kane County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a black Ford Fusion on U.S. Route 89 near mile marker 58. A records check revealed one of the occupants, identified as Ibarra, had an active warrant for his arrest.
