LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 2-year-old pitbull-terrier mix was put down on Wednesday after a veterinarian diagnosed internal injuries from methamphetamine toxicity.
Deputies with the Mohave County (Arizona) Sheriff's Office arrested the dog's owner on Thursday on charges of animal cruelty and possession of drug paraphernalia, both felonies.
The arrest occurred in Fort Mohave, about 109 miles south of Las Vegas, according to a Thursday news release.
Marcia Peterson, 40, was taken into custody after deputies went to a home in Fort Mohave and found squalid conditions with animal feces covering the floor of a room. It appeared the dog had been locked inside for a lengthy amount of time. Deputies also saw drug paraphernalia in plain sight.
