COLUMBUS, Ohio — Colleges and universities across Ohio are facing a major deadline this month tied to sweeping changes from Senate Bill 1, the state’s new public higher education reform law .

The law, signed earlier this year, requires universities to eliminate programs tied to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and to phase out degree tracks with persistently low graduation rates. Institutions must submit compliance plans by Sept. 25.

Already, some schools have begun making cuts. As of August, Ohio University suspended admissions to 11 programs with low enrollment as part of its compliance with the law, formally known as the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act .
