CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man pleaded guilty in connection with the killing of a woman and her unborn child in northeast Charlotte last November.

Dasean Maddox pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder, murder of an unborn child and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the death of 33-year-old Jameisha Wilkes on Nov. 13, 2024. Wilkes was found shot to death at the Ascent at Mallard Creek apartments. Detectives announced shortly after Wilkes' death that she was pregnant. All three of Maddox's charges were consolidated into second-degree murder for sentencing.

"Our family will forever be broken," Deidra Howard, Wilkes' mother, said after Thursday's hearing.
