TOLEDO, Ohio — Lucas County's dog shelter will open its new location in less than a month, the county board of commissioners announced in a press release Friday.

In the release, commissioners said Lucas County Canine Care and Control (LC4) will open its doors at 1301 Monroe St. on Oct. 4. It will begin the move from its current location, 410 S. Erie St., the week of Sept. 29.

During the moving period - from Sept. 29 through Oct. 3 - LC4 will be closed to the public. For owners who need to reclaim their dogs and for LC4 to accept stray dogs, arrangements will be made, the board said.

The county first broke ground on the facility nearly two years ago, in October of 2023. The intention of the new facility is to improve the shelter experience for dogs, as well as conditions for employees
