LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas state officials will hold a news conference Friday afternoon to discuss contraband cellphones in prisons.

Attorney General Tim Griffin will be joined by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr.

This comes after Cotton sponsored a legislation that would prevent inmates from illegally using cellphones inside prison.

Griffin supported the bill by mentioning the 2022 escape of Samuel Hartman from the Eastern Arkansas Regional Unit in Brickeys. Griffin said he believed a contraband cellphone was used in his escape.

The news conference will be streamed at 1:30 p.m. A live stream will be available in the live player above.
