University of Texas Permian Basin’s new director of percussion, Shane Roderick hopes to help the music department grow.
A Beaumont native, he is working on a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Miami. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Lamar University and a master’s in music performance from James Madison University.
With family in Texas, Roderick said being back is a great thing for him. He plays snare drum, timpani, marimba and vibraphone.
“I was immediately drawn to kind of the culture that’s already been created here, and I wanted to make sure that it was something that I would be able to continue,” Roderick said.
For both of his graduate degrees, Roderick had teaching assistant positions, teaching applied lessons to students and coaching some of th
