Jalen Carter was ejected from the Eagles season opener before the first snap of the game from scrimmage, but that’s likely not the only punishment he’ll face for spitting on Dak Prescott.
While the league may consider both fines and a suspension for Carter, it bodes well that they haven’t previously suspended a player for spitting at/on another. Even if they try to suspend Carter and make some kind of statement, precedent would make a good argument to appeal the decision.
Carter, obviously, made a mistake but he was also baited into the ordeal by Dak Prescott, who spit first. The NFL should take the totality of the situation into consideration when making their decision. Still, the Eagles’ DT needs to learn how to respond in those moments within the scope of the rules.
