Former Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen has gone on to have quite the NFL career. Now, the reigning league MVP will have his No. 17 jersey immortalized by his college team.

On Thursday, the Cowboys announced that Allen will be returning to Laramie for a jersey retirement ceremony on Nov. 22, which will be held at halftime of Wyoming's Mountain West Conference game against Nevada. He will be the first Cowboys player to have his jersey retired.

"It is very exciting and a wonderful day for the State of Wyoming," UW Director of Athletics Tom Burman said in a release. "It is going to be a big day in the history of Wyoming Football. Josh is the most high-profile ambassador the University of Wyoming has ever had. The National Football League is the most visible sports enterprise in history, and he is the best player in that league and that is pretty amazing in itself."

"What's up, Cowboy fans," Allen said in a video released by the program. "Josh Allen here. Excited to announce I will be returning to University of Wyoming Nov. 22 against University of Nevada. Excited to be back in Laramie, go Pokes."

Allen began his college career at Reedley College in California before arriving at Wyoming in 2015. He started 26 games during his three-year career in Laramie, throwing for more than 5,000 yards with 44 touchdowns to 21 interceptions. He also added 767 career yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

The seventh pick for the Buffalo Bills in the 2018 NFL draft, Allen has emerged as one of the league's best signal-callers and is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. He was also named to Wyoming's Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 induction class in March.
