More service, no extra cost.
That’s the key message coming from regional district officials in Kelowna concerning the planned introduction next spring of a new curbside collection service for flexible plastics and glass containers.
“We’re excited about this new opportunity for people to recycle more at the curb,” Cynthia Coates, the district’s supervisor of waste reduction, said Friday in an interview.
Asked if the new service would mean any extra charges for Central Okanagan homeowners, Coates said “absolutely no new cost increase”.
Much of the cost of recycling in the province is already covered by Recycle BC using funds it collects from paper and packaging producers. “Residents don’t even pay for recycling now,” Coates said. “Recycle BC is paying for it.”
