A member of the public gallery at the Shire of Peppermint Grove’s most recent council meeting has prompted it to trial a new method for maintaining its verges.
It has saved the shire from having to find an extra $80,000 to restore the grass verges on Bay View Terrace and Keane Street.
The verges have been worn down by being used for parking by people going to the Peppermint Grove Tennis Club, Manners Hill or events such as at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club.
Expansion plans by the tennis club are expected to add to the demand for off-street parking.
The shire had put aside $350,000 in its 2025-26 budget for the work and invited six contractors to quote for the work.
