GARLAND, Texas — The FBI and Mexican authorities arrested a man who had been on the run since 2009 for murdering a man in North Texas, the Garland Police Department announced.

GPD confirmed the arrest of 40-year-old Cesar Pascual Orozco last Friday, 16 years after his alleged crime.

Police said on March 14, 2009, witnesses saw Orozco, who was 24 at the time, shoot and kill 26-year-old Joe Castillo in the 700 block of Ford Street after dropping off his child with his ex-wife. Officers who responded to the scene that day found Castillo dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Garland PD, the arrest was made in coordination with Mexican authorities and the FBI. Castillo was extradited back to the U.S. and booked into Dallas County Jail, officials said on Sept. 5. His bond was set at
