Miller K Market and Save More grocery stores shut down over health code violations

Two more of Gary's most prominent supermarkets were abruptly shut down recently due to alleged health code violations.

Signs posted outside Miller K Market and Save More in Gary say they have been closed by order of the Gary Health Department.

Miller K Market at 5019 E. Dunes Hwy. is the only full-service grocery store with meat and produce serving Gary's lakeshore Miller neighborhood. The family-owned Save More in Midtown Gary has been at 921 Broadway since 1934.

Gary also recently shut down Super Save, long known as Sam's Market, at 2101 Virginia St.

"I am sad that Miller K is being shut down. I enjoy shopping there and didn't feel they were violating any codes," Miller resident Nora Glenn said.
