WESTBROOK, Maine (WABI) - A new video is warning Mainers, especially older adults, about the rise in fraud.
New Federal Trade Commission data shows that from 2020 to 2024, reports from older adults aged 60 and up who lost $100,000 or more to government or business impersonator scams quadrupled.
The video, put out by the Maine Credit Union League in collaboration with the Maine Attorney General’s Office and other agencies, sheds light on the emotional and financial toll scams can inflict and how to spot them.
They say if this educational tool can help one person from falling victim to a scam, it’s achieved its purpose.
