An infant born seven days earlier died Thursday after an attack by the family dog at a Markle residence, the Huntington County coroner said today.

Jason A. Weaver of Markle died after being bitten by the family's 5-year-old husky/pit bull mix, a news release said. The dog had not been reported to law enforcement for aggression.

The dog bite was reported by calling 911.

The child was in critical condition when first responders arrived. They performed life-saving efforts at the scene and while transporting him to a Fort Wayne hospital, where Jason was pronounced dead.

Jason's cause of death was multiple blunt force traumatic injuries, and his death was ruled an accident, the news release said. He died about 6:10 p.m. Thursday at the North Miller Street residence in Markle.
