A Kelowna RCMP officer is facing an assault charge in relation to an incident that occurred in the summer of 2023.

The BC Prosecution Service’s media release doesn’t offer many details but says the charge is related to an incident that occurred in Kelowna on August 18, 2023 during the McDougall Creek wildfire.

“An Information charging Cst. Russell Reeder with one count of assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code was sworn on September 4, 2025, under Kelowna provincial court file number 102735-1,” the release says.

“The charges were approved by an experienced Crown Counsel who has no connection with the accused.”

Reeder’s first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 18 in Kelowna. He is presently on “supported administrative leave”, according to Kelowna RCMP.
