ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a Cobb County church before setting it on fire.
Anthony Harris Jr. allegedly broke into Celestial Church of Christ in Smyrna around 3 a.m. on Aug. 27, according to an arrest warrant.
He busted out a window to enter the church, after which he stole $2,500 from a safe, along with robes and sashes, the warrant says.
Harris Jr. then allegedly used lamp oil to light a fire.
The damage to the church is estimated to be around $5,000 to $10,000, according to the warrant.
Police said the incident was captured on surveillance video.
Harris Jr. faces charges of arson, burglary, theft and criminal damage to property. He was denied bond because he was deemed a danger to the community, the warrant says.
