Regional supervising coroner Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion has announced an inquest will be held into the death of William Renwick, 49, who died of injuries he received while in custody at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre. Article content

Renwick died at The Ottawa Hospital on Nov. 8, 2020, three weeks after he was attacked at the detention centre on Innes Road. Article content Article content

An inquest is mandatory under Ontario’s Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Renwick’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
