AKWESASNE — For the first time ever, the Snake Island Muskies Senior B lacrosse team brought home the Presidents Cup after clinching gold during the championship finals on Aug. 30 in Whitby, Ont.

The Muskies, who are part of the Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League, took on the Brooklin Merchants in the final matchup , whose team had the advantage of playing at home in the Iroquois Park Sports Centre.

Muskies’ head coach and owner Kariwate Mitchell said there was a huge Muskies fan base present during the game of maybe close to 300 supporters in the audience, with some having travelled about four hours from their usual home base at the A’nowara’ko:wa Arena. Mitchell said this heavy presence helped to lift spirits and send the team to an 11-5 victory.
