Father charged with murder after 5-year-old dies in Park DuValle neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

A man is charged with murder after a 5-year-old died in the Park DuValle neighborhood on Tuesday.

LMPD responded to the 2900 block of Conestoga Avenue around 3:06 p.m. Tuesday about a 5-year-old who had suffered traumatic injuries due to a fall.

The boy was taken to Norton Children's Hospital, where he died Wednesday.

On Friday, police said they arrested 24-year-old Laron Gardner Jr. in connection to the boy's death. He is charged with murder (domestic violence), first-degree criminal abuse, and fourth-degree assault (child abuse).

According to an arrest slip, EMS personnel who responded to the scene on Tuesday said the boy's injuries were not consistent with falling.
