ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - If you were driving near the new Elkhart County courthouse Friday morning you may have seen a large security presence.

That’s because judges and lawmakers alike were in town celebrating the official opening of the courthouse.

The Elkhart County commissioner led a special ribbon cutting.

Indiana’s lieutenant governor spoke at the event.

Local judges and lawmakers spent part of the morning touring the new courthouse.

“To have one location is very important not just for efficiencies but security and best practices this stuff has been talked about for years and even decades, so it has come together to come to fruition. You heard we finally broke ground about four years ago and now we’re ready to open,” said President Brad Rogers a county commissioner.
