Lebanon Township Police Chief Jason Cronce is being hailed for his heroic actions after saving a woman from drowning in the Delaware River during an off-duty incident on Aug. 17.

The rescue occurred when Cronce noticed a woman in distress while she was tubing on the river.

The woman had encountered rapids and collided with an overhanging tree, which caused her to flip into the water. The strong current trapped her underwater beneath the tree.

Cronce immediately sprang into action, entering the water and successfully pulling the woman to safety, officials said.
