HURLEY, N.Y. — A Greene County man was arrested in the town on Monday after allegedly raping a child under the age of 15, according to a press release from state police.
The release said Russell Merrihew, 40, of Cairo, was arrested at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, after an investigation into “unlawful sexual conduct involving a minor.”
Merrihew was charged with six counts of rape (vaginal sexual contact with a child under the age of 15) and an additional count of disseminating indecent material to minors, all felonies. Merrihew was also charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.
An investigation had been ongoing since Sunday, Aug. 31, the release said.
Merrihew was arraigned in Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part Court and sent to Ulster County
